Collaboration Agreement between “The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens – School of Philosophy Department of Music Studies” and “The National University of Music Bucharest”(Universitatea Nationala de Muzica din Bucuresti), for the organization and operation of the joint postgraduate program “Byzantine Music: Academic Theory & Artistic Performance”
This collaboration agreement provides for the organization of a joint postgraduate program entitled “Byzantine Music: Academic Theory & Artistic Performance”, hereafter “the Program”, by 1) the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) – School of Philosophy – Department of Music Studies and 2) the National University of Music Bucharest (UNΜB) and it is signed between the Rectors of the two Institutions and the Head of the Department of Music Studies – School of Philosophy – NKUA, pursuant to the provisions of Law 4485/17.
Article 1
Subject area
The Department of Music Studies – School of Philosophy – NKUA and the National University of Music Bucharest agree to cooperate in the organization and operation of the joint postgraduate program “Byzantine Music: Academic Theory & Artistic Performance”.
The subject area for this joint postgraduate program is the discipline of Byzantine Music.
The duration of studies required for obtaining the Master’s degree awarded by the joint program “Byzantine Music: Academic Theory & Artistic Performance” is three (3) academic semesters.
The program’s graduates obtain a Master’s degree in “Byzantine Music: Academic Theory & Artistic Performance” with one of the following specializations:
- “Byzantine Music: Academic Theory”
- “Byzantine Music: Artistic Performance”
The program’s secretarial and administrative support is provided by the Department of Music Studies – School of Philosophy – NKUA.
The Master’s degree is awarded by the Department of Music Studies – School of Philosophy – NKUA. The name of the partner institution, National University of Music Bucharest, is also noted on the postgraduate certificate and parchment.
Article 2
Program duration
The Program “Byzantine Music: Academic Theory & Artistic Performance” shall be in place from the academic year 2022-2023 until the academic year 2031-2032, provided that it fulfils the criteria established by the laws in force.
Article 3
Obligations of the cooperating institutions
The obligations of the cooperating parts and the allocation of contributions are as follows:
The Department of Music Studies – School of Philosophy – NKUA will be responsible for providing secretarial and administrative support to the program.
Τo ensure the efficient implementation of the Program, the partner institutions will offer teaching work. The Program will use the assets and infrastructure (teaching venues, libraries, laboratories, museums, archives etc.) of the Department of Music Studies – School of Philosophy – NKUA and the National University of Music Bucharest. All software and hardware needs arising from the Program requirements will be covered by the Program’s revenues.
Either of the contracting parties that intends to end this Protocol before the scheduled time should inform the other with a written notice at least six months in advance. In this case, all the students enrolled in the program for that academic year will not be affected, and they will maintain the status of the student of the Program until the completion of their obligations towards the Program. The content of the agreement can be amended and supplemented with mutual consent. Further agreements concerning the program will serve as annexes to this one and enter into force upon signature by both contracting parties.
The two universities are committed to friendly settlement of any dispute.
Article 4
Program Administration
Competent bodies for the organization and operation of the Program are:
– The Special Interinstitutional Committee (SIC)
The SIC is appointed for a term of two years, has nine members and consists of seven (7) members of the teaching staff of the partner institutions and two (2) representatives of the students of the joint postgraduate program. Τhe allocation of members of the Committee between the two institutions, and in proportion to the number of participating members of their teaching staff, is as follows.
– Four (4) members of the teaching staff of the Department of Music Studies – School of Philosophy – NKUA
– Three (3) members of the teaching staff of the National University of Music Bucharest
– The Chair of the SIC as well as the Director of the Program is elected by the SIC in accordance with Law 4485/17 (paragraph 4, article 31)
– The Steering Committee (SC)
The Steering Committee (SC) consists of five (5) members of the teaching staff or research fellows appointed by the collaborating institutions for academic work at postgraduate level and they are elected by the SIC for a two-year term. More specifically, it consists of three (3) members of the teaching staff of the Department of Music Studies – School of Philosophy – NKUA and two (2) members of the teaching staff of the National University of Music Bucharest. The CS Chair’s mandate may be renewed once.
- The Director and the Deputy Director of the Program are Professors or Associate Professors of disciplines falling into the academic content of the Program (same or similar). The Program Director must be member and Chair of the SC. She or he is selected by the elected members of the Steering Committee and she or he is appointed along with her or his Deputy by the SIC for a two-year term. The Director shall not serve for more than two terms in succession in the same capacity. The Director of the Program submits opinions and advice to the competent authorities of the Institution on any issue related to the sound operation of the Program.
Article 5
Funding of the Joint Postgraduate Program
Funding of the Program comes from:
- Tuition fees
- Donations, sponsorships, legacies and any benefits received from public entities, subject to the thresholds set out by law 4270/14 (Article 14, Paragraph 1, case a’) or private entities.
- Resources from research Programs
- Resources from EU or other international organization Programs
- Any other legal source of funding
Other issues related to the Program and not mentioned in the Program Regulations and this Collaboration Agreement are decided upon by the SIC.
Article 6
Confidentiality Clause
The contracting parties are committed to appropriately safeguard the confidentiality of all classified information in their possession or coming to their notice, throughout the duration of the present Protocol. More specifically, the following information are identified as confidential: information relating to the academic and financial management of the Program or to policies and practices followed by the contracting parties, together with any information classified as confidential by either of the contracting parties. No confidential information shall be disclosed by either of the contracting parties to any third person or authority, unless it is required by law or reasonably necessary for the implementation and application of this Protocol or for the purpose of protection of legal rights of individuals.
The contracting parties shall treat with confidentiality personal information and shall not disclose the Program students’ personal data without their prior consent or as foreseen by law.
The confidentiality clause remains in force even after this protocol has expired.
The above terms will enter into force immediately after the authorized representatives of both universities have signed, and will expire at the end of the Program.
